Assessment  Process

Our professional approach combines doctoral-level clinical expertise with compassionate, empathetic care to guide your unique journey toward mental clarity.

Psychological testing isn't one-size-fits-all. We offer two approaches:

Traditional Psychological Assessment

Traditional assessment is a focused, structured process designed to answer specific diagnostic questions, such as "do I have ADHD?" or to obtain diagnostic clarity with questions like, "is this anxiety, depression or something else getting in the way of my learning or occupational achievement?" A comprehensive evaluation is conducted using validated instruments, followed by a thorough review of results and recommendations. The process is often initiated by referring professionals or parents seeking understanding of their child or tailored toward a specific purpose such as to obtain an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for school or to aid in continued treatment with an established professional. It can also be initiated by parents or individuals seeking clarification of their child or themselves with a particular question in mind.

Collaborative Therapeutic Assessment

Collaborative Therapeutic Assessment (CTA) takes a different approach. Rather than beginning with specific questions, often led by referring parties or outside sources, it begins with the questions of the individual. At the start of the process, the individual is invited to identify two or three questions they most want answered, often the kind of questions that have been lingering for years. For example, "why do people always say I seem angry even though I don't feel that way?" or "why do I always seem to end up in the same situations or relationships no matter how hard I try to change?" and "why does everything feel harder for me than it seems to be for everyone else?"Assessment is a collaborative exploration of these questions, using test results as a mirror rather than a measuring stick. CTA is particularly valuable for individuals who are just beginning therapy and want a meaningful starting point, or those who have been in therapy for awhile and feel stuck. CTA often accelerates the therapeutic process in ways that traditional "talk therapy" alone cannot.

Both assessment approaches are conducted with care, curiosity, and respect for the complexity of  the unique individuals that we are.
